What is CVC Noise Cancellation?

One thing that bothers me is to hear background noise while I’m on the phone with someone. Whether it is a TV or radio in the background, the sound of traffic or a plane flying overhead. Not only can it be distracting, but it takes something away from the conversation. And I feel like I always need to raise my voice a bit when replying to them. I’m sure most people feel the same way. Luckily there is a something we can do about it.

Let me tell you about CVC….

Everything You Need To know About CVC Noise Cancellation Technology

How can we eliminate background noise for a noise free background? CVC noise cancellation technology is the answer. If you are not tech savvy, terms such as CVC might sound Greek.

What is CVC Noise Cancellation Technology?

Clear Voice Capture (CVC) technology cancels out background noise and enhances selective listening when on a phone call. It is an ideal technology to have if you are working in a noisy environment, participating in a sport or when walking in noisy cities with a lot of street-level traffic. CVC allows you to hear the person at the other end clearly and for them to hear you. You also do not need to shout to be heard.

How Does CVC Work?

CVC uses computer algorithms located at the transmission and receiving paths of voice calls to detect and isolate your voice to give optimum sound quality.

When conversing over the phone, the microphone picks up on both your voice and any background noise.  The algorithms are trained to differentiate your voice and noise. The intelligent algorithms then filter out the unwanted noise and leave only your voice so that you can be audible. The result is that the voice quality and clarity improves.

This technology does not block loud noise from reaching your ears, but reduces the volume of such noises. This means that even if there is loud noise in the background, you will still be heard on your Bluetooth handset or other devices.

CVC technology eliminates quieter noises as well such as wind and people’s chatter almost entirely so that the person at the other end can clearly hear what you say even if you are in a noisy place.

What is the purpose of the CVC Algorithms?

  • To enhance Voice Communication by giving you a clear sound output. The algorithms cancel echo and background noise.
  • To identify voice signals of interest. The algorithms identify non-human speech and suppress or cancel them out altogher.

Is CVC similar to ANC?

Both Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) and CVC are noise cancelling technologies. They aim to create clear voice calls. However, ANC is totally different from CVC.   Let’s take a closer look at how they work to have better understanding. CVC aims at improving the call quality of the receiver. On the other hand, ANC blocks out the background noise so that you hear clearly. ANC is often paired with passive noise cancelling in ear buds. The ear buds provide a noise cancelling seal.

How Does ANC Work?

To filter the background noise, the ear buds or headphone have a microphone inside the ear cup or ear bud to detect any noise from outside. There is also a circuitry which determines what noise to block. The circuitry then creates a sound wave which blocks ambient noise.  ANC headphones are often bulky because of the extra noise blocking equipment. This is what makes CVC technology a must have.

The Difference between Noise Isolating and Noise Cancelling Headphones

Most people don’t get the difference between noise isolating and noise cancelling headphones.  Noise isolating headphones block external noise physically.  It is also referred to as passive noise cancellation. Noise isolating headphones block outside noise from entering your ears by creating a seal between the headphone and your ear.

Earbuds also block ambient noise using this technology.  They are fitted with padded cups designed to block out noise. The aim is to create a strong but comfortable seal around your ear canal so that you can only hear your music. This means that you do not need to raise your headphone volume to cancel the background noise.

On the contrary, noise cancelling headphones actively cancel out noise sound waves using digital signal technology. These headphones have a microphone and an audio processor which listen to background noise and create a sound wave to cancel out the noise. This is referred to as destructive interference.

Why You Need CVC Headphones

You probably don’t like it when noise disrupts your phone call. At home you get background noise like the from the washing machine, children playing nearby, air conditioning and so forth. When outside you get background noises such as the booming of jet engines, wind noise, screeching tires and so on.  The solution is to get CVC headphones. CVC headsets were mainly designed to filter out background noise when making phone calls but can also be used for teleconferences and podcasts. They enhance telephonic conversations by making your conversation clear and audible. The person at the other end feels as though you are talking to them from a quiet room because CVC improves your voice quality.

Do CVC Headphones Consume Much Power?

There is no need to worry about extra power consumption with CVC.  The technology barely consumes any power.  It is thus possible to use it even with smaller headphones and ear buds.

Differences Between CVC 6.0 and CVC 8.0 Noise Cancellation Technology

Both CVC 6.0 and CVC 8.0 cancel out background noise but using different technologies. CVC 6.0 is a group of algorithms built inside the microphone of a Bluetooth headset. On the other hand, CVC 8.0 algorithms are more advanced. They are incorporated into the microphone circuit to cancel out any sound that it identifies as noise.

Both CVC 8.0 and CVC 6.0 are compatible with the latest Bluetooth version.  So, how are these technologies different?

  • CVC 8.0 algorithms are more advanced than CVC 6.0 algorithms and thus can cancel even the lowest noise.
  • CVC 8.0 technology puts out clearer voice calls as compared to CVC 6.0. You can sometimes hear background when making a call on CVC 6.0 devices that you won’t hear with CVC 8.0.

Common Technological Features of most CVC Noise Cancelling Headphones

  • They have adaptive equalizers
  • Power saving mode
  • Frequency enhanced speech intelligibility
  • Sending and receiving equalizers
  • Comfort noise
  • Nonlinear processing

Conclusion

In conclusion we can all agree that CVC noise cancelling headphones do a perfect job in cancelling out irritating background noise and amplifying selective sound especially when making phone calls.  It allows you to listen and have efficient phone conversations. Even if there is loud background noise, you voice will be the loudest during a phone call.

This brings us to the end of our blog post and hopefully you have a better understanding of CVC noise cancelling technology, how it works, and why you need it. I hope that you found this informative. Keep it here for more related content.
